Policies and Procedures
You can find all of our policies on our policy hub but we have summarised a few main policies below.
Food and Nutrition Policy 🍎
Parents and/or carers should:
-
Ensure the food is suitable for your child’s individual developmental needs and prepared in a way to prevent choking.
-
For perishable items that should be kept cool, pack food in insulated sealed bags. If ice packs are unavailable, the ‘4-hour rule’ can be applied. This rule allows food to be stored outside of chilled conditions for up to 4 hours, but this should only be done once during the entire storage.
-
Clearly label your child’s name on the lunch bag and detail the contents.
-
Pack foods that can safely be kept at room temperature as there is no refrigerated area for storing food brought from home.
-
The Food Standards Agency provides advice on Listeria which has examples of ready-to-eat foods that should be eaten within 4 hours of removing them from the fridge.
We are unable to re-heat food or refrigerate food, so please ensure that you use an insulated food bag with an ice-pack to keep sandwiches safe. We can not guarantee that your child will not be exposed to allergens, however we are an allergy avoidant setting.
Medication 💊
We are only able to administer prescription medication, so please ensure that any medicines or inhalers are provided in the original boxes with the prescription label clearly visible. If your child requires an inhaler, you can provide an inhaler to keep at the setting.
Existing Injuries🩹
We are required to log any injuries that your child may have had at home. Please ensure you inform us of any existing injuries so we can complete an incident form for you to acknowledge on famly.
Absences 😶🌫️
We are required to monitor attendance and absence for all children. You can help us do this by logging any absences on the famly app as soon as you know your child will be away from the setting, This saves us from having to call you to log a reason for absence.
Sickness and Exclusion 🤧
If your child has either a temperature, loose bowel movement or sickness we advise that your child stays away from the setting for 48 hours. For all other infectious diseases, we follow advice from Public Health England to prevent the spread of infection.
Safeguarding & Child Protection 🛡️
We keep children safe in the setting by ensuring a culture of vigilance across the setting and team. We regularly monitor our policies and procedures to ensure that staff and parents are able to raise concerns about a child. All our staff receive child protection training and know how to respond if a child makes a disclosure or allegation. We have designated safeguarding lead who oversees all concerns. All matters referred to children's services are discussed with the parent/guardian unless this is unsuitable to do.
Health & Safety 🏥
We follow stringent health and safety procedures and have regular fire and lockdown drills. We adhere to EYFS ratios and ensure that children are always within hearing of staff and within sight at meal times.
Behaviour Management 🚸
We do not promote the use of 'naughty steps' or 'time out'. We believe that all behaviour is a form of communication and children in the early years are still learning how to regulate their emotions and feelings.
Therefore we believe in 'time-in' where we help children express their feelings in a safe way for example, sitting with a practitioner and talking about their feelings or why certain behaviours are undesirable. For pre-verbal children, this may be time-in with their key person to help calm them down or regulate their emotions.
Staying in touch 💬
Parents are encouraged to use the famly app to communicate, please be mindful that we may not always be able to respond straight away as we work closely with lots of children. We also ask parents to ensure they stay up to date with the famly newsfeed so you do not miss any important updates.
Equality, Inclusion and SEND 🌍
Your children will be allocated a Key person this will be updated via Famly in due course.
